The First Spark Project (aka: we’re setting up strangers and low-key spying on their first date 👀)
Dating right now? Weird.
Apps are exhausting, small talk feels like a full-time job, and somehow everyone is both “looking for something real” and also… not replying.
So instead of complaining about it, we decided to do something about it.
Introducing The First Spark Project—a curated blind date experience in Kamloops, created by Bosley Lens & Co. and Timber and Toast.
Yes, it’s inspired by those viral TikToks where strangers go on a first date and someone captures it.
But we’re making it less awkward… and a lot more intentional.
So what is it, actually?
We match two strangers.
We plan the date.
We set the vibe.
And then we quietly document what happens.
No stiff posing. No weird “ok now laugh at each other” moments. Just whatever naturally unfolds; good, bad, awkward, amazing… all of it.
Think of it as:
- part blind date
- part social experiment
- part “wait… are they actually hitting it off??”
WHO’S BEHIND THIS IDEA?
This is where it gets good.
stepH
I’m Steph (hi, it’s me) from Bosley Lens & Co! Your professional third wheel, but in a non-weird way. I actually met my husband on a blind date, so yes, I’m a full-blown hopeless romantic—the friend who’s immediately like “I LOVE them for you” after hearing one mildly cute story.
So no stiff poses here, just me catching the good stuff: the laughs, the glances, and that “okay wait… I’m kinda into this” energy.
Ashlee
Ashlee, the creative brain behind Timber and Toast, is basically the reason these dates won’t feel like an interview over coffee. She’s known for creating spaces and experiences that actually feel good to be in—thoughtful, relaxed, and a little bit elevated without trying too hard.
She’s the one making sure the date has a vibe (not just a location).
HOW IT WORKS (AKA YOU DON’T HAVE TO PLAN ANYTHING)
- You fill out the application
- We creep your answers (in a non-weird, very intentional way)
- We match you with someone we think you’ll actually get along with
- We plan the date for you
- You show up and see what happens
That’s it.
No swiping. No “hey what do you do?” 47 times.
WHY WE’RE DOING THIS
Because dating feels broken… and also kind of boring.
And we know there are good people out there who just need a better way to meet.
We also know that some of the best moments happen when you’re not overthinking it—and definitely not when you’re trying to curate the perfect version of yourself.
So this is about:
- real connection
- getting out of your comfort zone (just a little)
- and seeing what happens when you actually give something a chance
Worst case? You have a funny story.
Best case? 👀
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Honestly?
If you’re even thinking about it… you probably should.
This is for people who are:
- open-minded
- a little adventurous
- over dating apps
- and willing to trust the process (just a bit)
No pressure. No expectations. No labels.
IMPORTANT DATES (DON’T MISS THIS PART)
Applications opened March 15
They close April 15
So if you’re in, don’t overthink it for three weeks and then panic apply last minute (you know who you are).
FOLLOW ALONG (BECAUSE YOU’LL WANT TO SEE THIS UNFOLD)
We’ll be sharing bits and pieces of the dates as they happen—so yes, you can watch and see if sparks actually fly.
Or don’t.
But you’ll probably be curious.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Could be sparks. Could be awkward silences. Could be a story you’ll tell at brunch forever. Either way, you show up, look cute, and make a human connection (we call that winning). And hey, feel free to share this with your best friend, your cousin’s brother, the mailman, or even the Amazon delivery driver, basically anyone you think might want to find their first spark.
XO XO
