Mom’s Tropical Birthday Bash 🌴🍹
🌺 Planning the Party
Planning a party is always a little bit of a whirlwind, but planning a 60th birthday made it feel extra special. We wanted it to feel fun, relaxed, and like the perfect summer celebration.
My sister and I, along with our stepdad, planned the party from start to finish. There were lots of conversations, ideas and last minute lists...but seeing everything come together made all of it worth it.
The tropical theme gave us so much to work with: tropical drinks, island-inspired details, and plenty of food for everyone to enjoy. We wanted the whole party to feel like a little escape, and I think we pulled it off!
🛖 Building the Tiki Bar
One of my favorite parts of putting the party together was creating the tiki bar.
My sister, my husband, and I actually built it ourselves, which made it even more fun to see it finally finished and being used at the party. It became the perfect centerpiece for the celebration and, of course, the place everyone wanted to gather for a drink.
And what’s a tiki bar without signature cocktails?
🍹 Signature Drinks
We came up with two signature drinks just for the birthday: Sixty on the Beach and the Alannacolada.
Having drinks with names created specifically for Mom made the celebration feel even more personal — and they were definitely a hit! There’s just something about sipping a tropical drink from a tiki bar that makes a birthday party feel like a vacation. 🌴☀️
🧀🥩 The Food
There was definitely no shortage of food!
We put together a huge charcuterie spread that was perfect for grazing throughout the party, followed by some serious comfort-food favourites: brisket and pulled pork. And let's not forget coconut and pineapple cheesecake for dessert!
Between the charcuterie, the BBQ, all the little snacks, and of course the drinks, nobody was going home hungry!
📸 Being the Photographer
One of the funny things about planning a party is realizing that you don't necessarily get to experience it quite like everyone else.
I spent a good portion of the day with a camera in my hand, trying to capture everything from the decorations, the food, the drinks, the tiki bar, the people, the little details, and of course, the birthday girl.
Being both a party planner and the photographer is definitely a balancing act. You're trying to enjoy the moment while also thinking, “Wait! I need a picture of that!” 😂
💕 Celebrating 60 Years
Getting to plan my Mom's party with my sister and stepdad made it super meaningful. We put a lot of time, work, and love into making the day special, and seeing everyone enjoying themselves made all of the planning completely worth it.
